We talk about replica cars and kit cars a lot these days, what with so many manufacturers producing its own renditions of “the classics.” What goes unspoken however, are those that came before them. We aren’t referencing the classics themselves here, but a company back in its heyday called Era Replica Automobiles (ERA) manufactured what is arguably considered “the most authentic Ford GT40 replica” ever produced.
It’s been nearly four decades since ERA Ford GT40 has been available, and naturally there are some standing replicas now on the market. However, you can undoubtedly expect these ERA iterations to command a high dollar figure when they come up for sale, and that leads us to the example we see before us today.
This incredible 1992 ERA GT comes to us from Bring A Trailer, and it’s available for auction right now. With four days left to bid, this GT seems to hover just past the $50,000 mark, though we expect it to meet or exceed the six figure corner stone. If you’re wondering why, the details are in the original ad, which proclaims that this GT has a rich history with many Blue Oval ties.
For starters, this particular GT was one of the earliest examples produced by ERA. It was designed to build upon the original GT40’s “shortcomings,” by utilizing a much straighter body than the original, and with all-weather sealing. These cars even had optional air conditioning.

“It is represented by a close friend of the current owner and sold with extensive records and technical manuals, as well as a clean North Carolina title.”
One engineering marvel which makes the ERA GT so unique and so highly desirable is the fact that its produced with urethane coated mild steel in lieu of a cold-rolled mild steel. It is paired with a completely rebuilt 5-speed ZF transaxle, mated to a fully-built 302ci V8 which has been stroked to 331ci.
The engine was balanced and blueprinted with an estimated power output of 400 horsepower, according to the ad. If you’re in the market for a fully broken-in, well taken care of replica Ford GT, this ’92 ERA GT might just be the ticket for you. Checkout the original ad here for more information.
