It’s been a long road since our in-house Mustang project car practically grenaded its transmission back in June, but we are almost at the final stretch. If you’re a frequent reader of our site (and why wouldn’t you be?), you’ve probably already caught a glimpse of our Three-Valve Mustang in a few of our stories this year.
If you need us to refresh your memory, it’s a 2005 Mustang that was completely bone-stock before we started upgrading it. As of this segment, it’s got a Paxton NOVI 2200SL supercharger kit on the stock-bottom-end 4.6-liter V8, a SPEC twin-disc clutch, and a host of drag-racing-ready suspension parts from QA1 and UPR Products.
And with that, we decided to ditch the remote-style-shifting five-speed and upgrade to a TREMEC Magnum XL six-speed manual transmission. Fortunately, our friends at Silver Sport Transmission offer an entire kit for our application (’05-’14 Mustangs). Without going into too much detail, the kit includes virtually everything you’ll need to swap a transmission on a weekend.
Keep an eye out in the future for that story, as it’s one you surely won’t want to miss. In our future story we’ll discuss the features, benefits and capabilities of the Magnum XL in factory trim, along with all of the tricks we have for you to install this transmission in your garage on jack stands in just a weekend’s time, so stay tuned.
