Nowadays, cars are coming straight out of the factory gates with higher performance numbers than ever before. Even the cars with a few less cylinders are giving the older eight cylinder cars with modifications a run for their money. The 2009 Mustangs with the 4.6L 3V engines come standard with 300 hp (5,300 rpm) 320 ft lb of torque ( 3,500 rpm).

Sadly, that’s not a whole lot today in regards to the newer factory Ford Mustangs with the V6 putting out 300 horses, and the EcoBoost pushing 310 horsepower, and the new GT with 435 horsepower. Horsepower has certainly come a long way in just 6 years.

However, there are ways to mod that 3-valve into a performance beast thanks to aftermarket goodies. The good people at Livernois Motorsports prove that they can add just a few things to that 3-valve to take it to that next level. Livernois Motorsports added the Stage 1+ package to Pat’s 2009 GT which  includes Livernois Motorsports MyCalibrator Tuner, Livernois Motorsports Windstorm cold air intake, long tube headers and a Corsa Catback.

First, you need to figure out what the car runs as is before any additional mods. Pat’s GT ran a baseline of 256 whp and 253 wtq.  After adding the goodies included in the Livernois Motorsports Stage 1+ kit, the car was bumped up to an impressive 306 whp and 318 wtq. Not too shabby for just a few aftermarket parts.

Those new 5.0’s may be pretty sweet, but the 3-valves are still great cars with so many different aftermarket parts capable of turning it into a monster.
