With the exception of a small number of Mustang experts we’d be skeptical of anyone who says their car is better than the recent BOSS 302. Kenny Brown Performance recently teamed with Wacounda, Illinois Ford dealer Victor Ford, and owner Jeff Victor to offer a special GT4-CS Mustang. Victor Ford is a dealer specializing in high performance Mustangs, including the GT500 and BOSS models. Owner Jeff Victor is also an avid Mustang enthusiast and racer, owning and racing a 2004 Kenny Brown SVT Cobra Sport Racer.
Victor saw high demand created by the BOSS 302 for customers looking for a Mustang that was ready to hit the track. However, he also saw that many desired some of the options that were not available on the BOSS but were on the Mustang GT. Having experience with Kenny Brown Performance products, and the company also being based in the area, Victor teamed with KB to create a Kenny Brown/Victor Ford GT4 Clubs Sport (GT4-CS) Mustang.
Using his knowledge of the Ford option system, Victor starts with a Mustang GT Track Pack, which adds 3.73 gears, Torsen differential, Brembo Brakes, Recaro seats, and a few other options. From there the car is sent to Kenny Brown Performance for upgrading to the GT4-CS package, one of KB’s many GT4 packages.
At Kenny Brown Performance the cars receive AGS 4.0 Club Sport suspension, a highly engineered package that improves suspension geometry and handling without sacrificing comfort when driving on the street. We’ve outlined KB’s AGS 4.0 numerous times in the past, but to put it plainly, the system fixes the problems with the Mustang suspension geometry. Roll center is corrected, as is dive. The KB GT4 cars can brake and rotate better than many cars that cost two to three times as much.
While the Mustang GT may have a little less power than some of the more expensive cars at the track, it makes up for that by being able to go into the corners and brake later, while getting back on the throttle sooner. Corners are where most passing occurs on the track, and these characteristics make high dollar sports cars easy pray for the GT4-CS. When it needs servicing, any Ford dealer can handle that task as well. While the high capacity oil pan will add a few extra dollars to the price of an oil change, servicing this car is far less expensive than most others it’s going to compete against.
From the photos you can see the full AGS 4.0 suspension has been installed on this particular car, including K-member, control arms, functional front brake ducts, as well as rear control arms, and panhard bar. This particular car also includes a few extras like BOSS 302 exhaust as well as a few other performance modifications. A more aggressive rear spoiler has also been added to this car, and Pirelli Corsa tires, a personal favorite of Kenny Brown himself. This car also features an upgraded wheel package over the standard wheels that come on the GT4-CS, although it is pictured here with the standard wheels.
While this particular car was spec’d for Victor himself, the base package can be put together for prices comparable to a BOSS 302, which is no longer available from Ford. Victor says, “This is a really cool high-performance specialty Mustang. It is a car you can drive to the track, spend the weekend beating up on Porsches, Vettes, and Bimmers then drive it home. Plus the maintenance is way less than those other cars. I drove it at The Autobahn [country club] and it has to be the best driving car I’ve ever driven”
The car pictured is for sale now in the Victor Ford showroom, and the dealership can have a Mustang built with any options available on the GT plus the Kenny Brown/Victor Ford package for any customer. With the BOSS out of the picture for 2014, this may be one of the best values for the enthusiast who wants to hit the track a few times a year but maintain a fully streetable, and comfortable Mustang.
