A few years back, Racepak introduced the SmartWire power module, which functions as a race car’s control center for the vehicle’s electrical components. It’s a programmable control module that allows the user to control the functions of their car without a separate switch, relay, fuse, and/or circuit breaker for every system, keeping things clean and functioning properly.

This year at PRI, Racepak brought out two new power modules aimed specifically for drag racing and street performance. Both modules are a solid-state design with 30 outputs and 12 inputs to control device current and voltage settings. Each one can handle a 125 amp total output, and operate on 12-16 volt systems. The pre-labeled harness plugs into the module and can work with Racepk dataloggers or as a standalone system, eliminating the need for fuses, relays and solenoids by controlling voltage and current in each programmable circuit.

The Drag SmartWire simplifies wiring and saves weight by eliminating unnecessary circuits to the fewest number of components to basic Sportsman level racing, and all outputs are user-defined to provide complete control of a drag racing vehicle’s power needs.

The Street SmarWire concept provides systems and circuitry that would be found on a typical musclecar or street rod, allowing full control over vehicle systems and accessories.

Another cool electronic module Racepak brought out is the Universal ECU Interface Module. The ECU input is compatible with over 20 stand-alone ECU systems, and easily connects to Racepak’s V-Net sytem. The setup options include sample rates, sensor calibration, and selection of scaling units, with up to 16 data channels that can be monitored and recorded.

Racepaks Chris Vopat said, “Different EFI systems have their own ECU protocols. The Universal ECU Interface takes the signal and converts it to something that our system can read.” The module streams CAN-based data from the ECU to any Racepak dash or data logger, and works with all of the brands instead of having to use individual modules for each brand.
