DSC Sport (Dynamic Suspension Control) has ultimately developed an algorithm to control shock adjustments in (almost) real-time. We stopped by their booth at this year’s PRI show to learn all about their innovative new products.
In short, DSC Sport makes fully active suspension using a control box, wiring harness, Tractive shocks, and Swift springs. Today, Tractive shocks are the fastest responding shock on the market, with a response rate of six milliseconds, while most others are in the hundred millisecond range. Tom Chan from DSC Sport explains, “Our control box is based on an algorithm for g-force, steering angle, and brake pressure – so, it basically tunes rebound and compression when you’re driving at a rate of six milliseconds.”
For many vehicles, factory shocks are usable with the active suspension control box and are plug-and-play through CANbus for those with electronic suspension. But, in some cases, the limits of the factory shocks are quickly surpassed, which is when upgrading to the Tractive shocks is highly recommended. “Tractive shocks have much higher capabilities, dynamic range, and overall better build quality,” explained Tom.
DSC Sport offers a free software for user adjustment for those that would like to mess around and fine tune their suspension. “For the most part, users leave it alone, because our mapping is so good. We spend hundreds of hours on the streets and racetrack to develop these base maps,” said Tom. “[They] have proven a clear advantage in professional racing.” But, he recommended users to contact DSC after major modifications such as a drastic wheel/tire change, GT wing addition, etc.
Currently, these setups are available for everything from Porsches to Corvettes, Vipers, Mustangs, and more. Soon, they will be releasing kits for the new Camaro and Ford Focus RS. Tom claimed they can convert any car to electronic suspension– even old Restomods.
