The Mustang and Borla Performance Industries have been fast friends for years. That’s not about to change, but Borla is expanding its offerings to include the EcoBoost F-150 and the power increases these upgrades offer both vehicles will blow you away.
“On the F-150 kit, the earlier engines were adding about 160 horsepower, and upwards of nearly 600 lb-ft of torque on 93-octane fuel,” Ola Lysenstoen, special projects manager for Borla, told us. “On the later model trucks [on 91-octane fuel], we haven’t seen quite as much in terms of gains, because the newer trucks have a larger turbo already–but not as big as the ones in our upgrade package. We add around 100 to 110 horsepower using 91-octane fuel, and up to 130 horsepower on 93-octane–and that’s still just shy of 600 lb-ft of torque. It’s a very stout upgrade, and it really wakes the truck up.”
The F-150 kit includes a new Type-S true-dual exhaust system as well, which is currently exclusive to the turbo package.
“The kit comes with two turbochargers,” Ola remarked. “It also includes six spark plugs which are one heat range colder than the OEM ones, a new air filter, the aforementioned exhaust, and a SCT 4X tuning device with a specific tune from 5 Star Tuning. For the Mustang EcoBoost, we’ll be adding an AFR 76/63 turbocharger for it. Along with that turbo, this kit will come with an adapter for the new turbo, a downpipe, an air-inlet pipe, an intercooler and the associated plumbing.”
Borla has all of its packages for the EcoBoost-powered F-150 and Mustang located on its website here, so check them out and let us know if you’ll be upgrading your EcoBoost-powered vehicle anytime soon.
