SEMA 2017: 3.5-liter EcoBoost Valvetrain Upgrades

If you are interested in beefing up the internals of your Ford EcoBoost engine to run a higher boost setup, then chances are upgrading your vehicle’s valve springs is going to be at the top of your list. For Over 48 Years, Ferrea Racing Components has been manufacturing hardcore racing engine valves and components for various types of engines in a wide range of categories worldwide.

And this month at SEMA, the company debuted two new valve spring kits options for turbocharged engines. The first is for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost kit, which can be configured to run either street performance or racing applications.

“We are starting to see a big demand for applications on the twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost Raptor,” said Zeke Urrutia of Ferrea. “What we have done here is come out with two different series. For 2018 will be offering a budget-oriented value, and then we are also going to do a competitive plus value that will be available for racing enthusiasts looking to run full boost on a twin-turbo setup.”

Choosing the proper type of design valve and the material is crucial to the valve performance and reliability. Ferrea offers different blends of titanium and stainless steel materials for each of its valve spring applications.

“The advantages of upgrading to a valve spring setup like this is you can run a better camshaft, achieve higher RPM, and weight reduction,” Zeke explained. “Our valves are ported and designed to last much longer than the stock OEM valves when running higher boost. For a multi-valve cylinder head, you will also be able to choose between the standard upgrade and 1mm over in size.”

Ferrea is also offering Honda Type R fans valve spring upgrades for the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine as well. The company will be feature two different applications for the Type R engine, featuring both a street performance setup and a full race kit which features an upgraded roller rocker system build for the track.

Both the 3.5-liter Ford and 2.0-liter Honda kits will be available in early 2018. For more information on the entire Ferrea lineup, you can visit the company’s official website here.
