No-prep style racing is arguably, and certainly in the eyes of a growing crowd, drag racing in its absolute purest form. It’s machoism at its finest — mano-e-mano street racing held in the completely legal confines of an organized drag strip, where the driver plays as great a role, if not greater, than the car itself. There’s often great reward for those who can successfully conquer a surface with limited to zero traction, but with such little room for error, it comes plenty of risk.

The owner of a nearly brand new 2015 Ford Mustang learned that lesson in a devastating way at the Outlaw Armageddon no-prep event that was held at the Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Oklahoma over the weekend. The driver of the supercharged Mustang was racing alongside a fourth-gen Camaro and already a few car-lengths back as he fought to get traction when the car pitched hard left and shot across the track — seemingly without ever slowing down despite the obvious sign of brake application — and plowed head-on into the concrete wall.

The brutal, high-speed impact lifted the front of the car well into the air, doing quite a number on the front of the shiny new pony car. The airbags can be seen deploying in the video, which spared the driver from any serious harm. In fact, in the lead clip from 1320Video, the driver can be seen getting out of the car on his own and assessing the damage.. In that aspect, he was fortunate, but explaining what may very well be a totaled car due to drag racing to his insurance adjuster may not have such a bright ending.
