In 2009, the Racing for Autism team ran a 2010 Mustang GT in the Targa Newfoundland rally, but for this year’s event they’ve stepped up their game a bit, and with a little help from SPEC Clutch, they’ll be competing in a 2010 Shelby GT500 this year. For those not in the know, the Targa is the first and only event of its kind in North America – each September, rally competitors cover 2200km (that’s 1,367 miles in ‘merican) of open and closed roads in eastern and central Newfoundland. After last year’s event, the Racing for Autism team presented the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador with the fruits of their fundraising efforts, a cheque for $11,000 (presumably Canadian dollars, considering the spelling of “cheque”).
Since the Canadian weather is often unpredictable for the Targa, with torrential rain at times, upgrading from GT to GT500 takes a considerable amount of courage. Still, we’re cheering for them and we’ll let you know how they fare this September 11-18.
