You need the best of everything available to build a show-stopping hot rod these days. Good looks, driveability, big power, and comfort are all part of the modern rodding package. A machine that checks off all those boxes — a gorgeous, Coyote-powered 1956 Ford F100 pickup — is hitting the auction block at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona, in January.

The builder of this F100 started out with, what is described in the listing, as a rust-free, California 1956 F100. This bodystyle is arguably the most popular of the first generation F-series trucks and difficult to improve on. However, with some subtle touches, this pickup went up to the next level.

This ’56 Ford F-100 was an extremely solid piece when its high-quality, frame-off restoration began. — Barrett-Jackson

“This ’56 Ford F-100 was an extremely solid piece when its high-quality, frame-off restoration began,” says Barrett-Jackson. “This truck spent all of its life in the California desert, where it’s nice and dry.”

After the solid truck was taken down to bare metal, the builder modified the original body with shaved turn signals; front and rear roll pans; and rounded door corners. The fenders were even widened 3 inches in the rear to increase that timeless, fat-fendered Ford look.

Coyote swaps are all the range, and the modern 5.0 powerplant definitely revs up the performance and driveability of this ultra-clean pickup.

1956 F100 Mods

• 3-inch wider rear fenders
• C6 Corvette Z06 suspension
• Camaro rear differential
• Coyote 5.0-liter engine
• Custom axles
• Ford 6R80 automatic transmission
• Kindig-It door handles
• LED taillights
• Mattson polished radiator and air-conditioning condenser
• Power one-piece door glass
• Ron Francis wiring
• Smooth running boards
• Smooth tailgate
• Tubbed bed
• Vintage Air Front Runner accessory drive system

The builder then sat F100 body down on a completely custom chassis featuring a C6 Corvette Z06 suspension along with a Camaro rearend. Now, we know what you are thinking, another crossbreed? Nope! Under the hood of this classic F100 is all Blue Oval. A modern Coyote 5.0-liter engine sits under the hood. It is mated to an equally modern 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission. A pair of race mufflers round out the truck with a wicked exhaust note to complete the performance package.

Ready to take this bad boy for a ride? We know we would like to. It could be yours this in the new year, so check out the complete listing here for all the details.

If you want to attend the auction in person and check this truck out for yourself, the event is held at Westworld of Scottsdale from January 13-21, 2018 and you can get the full details on how to attend right here.

The interior in this F100 is simply put a work of art. Almost every piece is custom and covered in sinister black. We do love that the builder retained the factory Mustang 6R80 shifter to give onlookers just a little hint at the drivetrain that lies beneath this classic.

Growing up with a dad who loved Corvettes, I was destined to be a gearhead from day one. Beyond that, my dad owned an auto parts business for over 25 years. There, I learned the automotive basics as a child, then began my professional career working there after high school. From Corvettes and Superbirds to Hemis and Cobra Jets, my dad has owned a little of everything over the years, so I've had my chance to get some quality seat time behind the wheel of some rare, unique, and sometimes, just odd automobiles. I have owned my share of toys, including over 20 Mustangs. I guess to make a long story short, if you look up "car crazy" you will probably find my photo listed pretty close to it!
