Twenty years after it debuted, the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra remains a favorite among Fox-body fans who remember the days of seeing the cars rolling down the road new, and a legend to those who missed out on the parting shot of the legendary body style.
We recently came across eBay item number 33104615596 , a black 1993 Cobra which was ordered with every option available. What makes this car special though is not the options, or the fact that it is a black 1993 Cobra, it is the mileage and condition. This particular Cobra has just 1,009 miles on the odometer.
For those not in the know, 1993 Cobras were the first major project of SVT, which was reborn from the old SVO department. The brainchild of performance guru John Coletti, 1993 Cobras featured GT40 heads, a special Cobra intake which was a cast variant of the GT40, a different camshaft, 24-pound injectors, different mass air flow meter, and performance oriented computer. They were rated at 235 hp from Ford, although many believed the car to make closer to 300 since a standard Mustang 5.0 rated at 205 already that year.
The story from the seller goes that the car was ordered and purchased new at McCoy Mills Ford in Fullerton, California. The owner parked the car in the garage in August of 1993, shortly after purchasing, and it stayed there for nearly 20 years.
The current seller purchased this car along with a Cobra R as a package deal, and is unloading the standard Cobra. Options ordered on this car include 13C: Sunroof, 585: Premium Stereo with CD player, 57Q: Rear window defrost, C: Leather Seats, 41H: Block Heater.
The seller has also changed the oil recently, and obviously has the car running. They also state that they’ve owned and restored numerous Fox-body cars through the years and this is a rare and pristine example. Full documentation with the exception of the SVT certificate is also included with the car.
If we had the cash, we’d be making a trip to LA right now to pick this badboy up. With such low mileage, a car like this commands a premium price, and current bidding is over $21,000, with five days left to go at the time of this writing. The reserve has not been met, and the buy it now is set at $30,900. For now we can only dream, -happy bidding.
