The blue oval’s line of EcoBoost branded engines are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with, and the performance world are not the only ones who need to watch out.
The recently collaborative efforts of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police provided testing on the EcoBoost powered police vehicles, and the results are impressive.
EcoBoost powered law enforcement vehicles like the Police Utility (Ford Explorer) and the Police Sedan (Ford Taurus) are posting the fastest test results when compared to their competitors, and it comes as no surprise. According to a recent release by Ford – during testing, the EcoBoost powered vehicles posted the fastest 0-60 and 0-100 acceleration results, as well as the fastest quarter-mile and top speed results in comparison to the current competition.
The latest addition to Ford’s law enforcement vehicle lineup, the 2.0 liter Ecoboost powered Special Service Police Sedan, set out on the course to prove it could hang with it’s higher-horsepower, higher displacement brothers-in-arms. The 2.0 liter EcoBoost powered sedan performed so well, it outran the last V8 powered Crown Victoria tested back in 2011 from 0-60 – at only half the engine displacement. This incredible achievement earns the newly commissioned EcoBoost powered sedan an allowance of a pursuit rated vehicle title.
“We are proud to maintain our performance advantages, and these validate Ford Police Interceptor leadership,” said Arie Groeneveld, Ford Police Interceptor chief engineer. “We love the bragging rights, but for these officers, best-in-class performance is a huge safety attribute. Pursuits that end quickly are more likely pursuits that end safely. This team is obsessed with officer safety.”
