Ford is looking to spur Mustang sales and make the Pony car once again a top seller in it’s segment with the 2015 Mustang. This car, which is now designed to be sold worldwide, will face stiff competition, and no doubt fierce scrutiny by both the automotive press, and Mustang loyalists everywhere.
Ford has not been shy about building up hype and anticipation for this all new Mustang either. They’re advertising the car worldwide, and having it take part in a multimedia circus of advertising. The car will no doubt make it’s own share of special appearances over the next 12 months as well.
The first of these appearances, and the first time that most of us will see a 2015 Mustang at speed will be this coming weekend during the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway. At this NASCAR race, a red Mustang adorned with white stripes, a 50 years running horse on the quarter panels, and pace car lighting will pace the race.
You can be sure that Ford will have several 2015 Mustang prototypes on display as well for race fans to look over, and we would expect there to be plenty of Ford representatives on hand to answer questions about the new car. We also expect that during the race coverage there will be at least some media mentioning and talk about the pace car.
No word yet on who will be driving the Mustang for the opening pace laps, many times for big events such as the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, or the Indy 500 a celebrity driver is chosen. We wouldn’t be disappointed to see one behind the wheel of the 2015, but who, and would they be able to give their honest opinion about the car, or stick to the storyline, and not say anything new at all?
While we will get a glimpse of the new Mustang at speed this weekend, we’re still waiting for Ford to invite media to test drive the new car, and for final horsepower, weight, and performance numbers to be released.
