Arguably one of the coolest Blue Oval cars from the ’70s, the Mercury Cougar was the “more luxurious” older brother to the Ford Mustang back in the day. Though similar in size, shape and weight to the Mustang, the Cougar really was its own brand – rightfully so under the Mercury moniker. Today’s example furnished from eBay brings a very cool, freshly restored 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, powered by a 351 Cleveland V8 and finished in a brand-new Competition Yellow paint job.

The divided and finned front grille and matching taillights on the Cougar really set this Mercury apart form its Ford counterpart. The 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels on all four corners add a very fantastic look and feel to this Cougar as well.

Along with the new exterior paint, all of the chrome trim has been completely restored and polished to its reflective hue – matching the aforementioned Magnum 500 wheels. Paired with a set of BFGoodrich tires, power is transferred through a four-speed manual transmission, exiting to a factory 9-inch rear end.

Power for the big cat comes from a 351 Cleveland V8, which was rebuilt just 2000 miles ago. A correct intake and big Holley 4-barrel carburetor gives the engine bay the proper 1970 look under that big air cleaner, which has been augmented with reproduction decals.

According to the original ad, power for the big cat comes from a 351 Cleveland V8 engine which was rebuilt just 2,000 miles ago at the time. The engine features a period-correct intake and a big Holley four-barrel carburetor, which gives the engine bay the proper 1970 look under that massive air cleaner (which has been augmented with reproduction decals).
