For the final year of the Fox-body Mustang, SVT created the memorable 1993 Cobra. Offering more horsepower via different cylinder heads, intake manifold, camshaft, and larger fuel injectors over the GT. The Cobra also offered a host of suspension and appearance differences to set it apart. This limited production car was available in two shades of red (red, and vibrant red), as well as teal, and black.
We recently came across a ’93 Cobra on eBay item number 131088233227, that we’re not sure how we feel about it, or what we’d do with this car. This car is being sold as a body only, the owner had originally intended to turn it into a race car, but now says he has too many other projects to complete this one.
The listing states this is a real, 1993 Cobra, which if the VIN shown in the listing and the photo of the title match the car, is true, both contain the P42 digits that designate this car as a Cobra. We also noted a correct Cobra badge on the driver’s fender which is laying inside the car, as well as the rectangular Cobra script badge on the hatch. There also appears to be the correct master cylinder and brake booster under the hood which were unique to the 1993 Cobra model.
With just under 4,993 Cobras sold to the general public in 1993 it’s a shame to see such a rare Fox-body in this condition. With the exception of the dash and steering wheel, most of the interior is gone. There is likely some wiring missing from the engine compartment in addition to the engine harness. There are no lights, no front bumper, and we’re not sure about the passenger side fender as it’s not pictured.
The seller has a starting bid of $3,500, and with the car as a shell, and it virtually impossible to return to numbers matching condition we have to wonder what would you do with it? Attempt a restoration to non-numbers matching standards? Build a bad street or race car? Is it worth paying a premium for a shell of a ’93 Cobra? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
