While the Mustang has enjoyed immense popularity in the USA since it’s debut in 1964, many don’t realize the car’s appeal worldwide. Of all the cool, and collectible cars available all over the world, perhaps none has more appeal to many than a Mustang.
Over in Europe the Mustang is the most desired collectible or classic vehicle on the entire continent. The car enjoys a huge following, with hundreds of clubs, and regular gatherings of enthusiasts and owners. Many of these owners pay thousands in additional taxes, import, and licensing fees just to get their hands on a car that has not been sold new in the European market in decades.
Ford announced that the 2015 Mustang would be a global product, coming to markets such as Europe when it goes on sale later this year. The Mustang order banks opened just a few days ago in the Old World, and as evidence as to how high demand is for new Mustangs, over 500 preorders were taken in the first 30 seconds! That’s not a typo, 500 preorders, that might be more Mustangs ordered in 30 seconds than have been imported in the last decade to the entire continent combined.
Ford expects the EcoBoost model to be highly popular in Europe. With many countries taxing horsepower, displacement, or number of cylinders, the EcoBoost model should make an excellent compromise between all out performance, and reasonable gas mileage, in a part of the world where gasoline costs three to four times what it does in the USA. The 5.0 is available, but there will be no V6 for Europe, and probably not anywhere outside the USA, in fact we’d speculate the days of a V6 Mustang are coming to an end.
We’ve not heard any figures yet on what the USA preorders are for the 2015 Mustang, but we imagine they’re fairly solid as well, we wouldn’t be surprised if the entire Job One allocation is already spoken for. We still can’t wait to get behind the wheel of one of these cars ourselves, and hope to get an invite from Ford very soon.
