Fusion NascarBy now I’m sure you’ve heard that Ford will replace the Taurus as it’s Nascar presence with the new Ford Fusion. You’ll see it in the Nextel Cup beginning at this years opening day in Daytona. Next year it will appear in the Busch events. This is the first time since the Torino in 1968 that Ford has put a brand new showroom model as it’s nameplate on the track. This seems to be consistent in approach to Ford’s recently announced initiative to reinvent itself. By putting the new Fusion in front of millions of fans, it is a sure bet to increase sales. Remember the Taurus was a number one seller for years. The Taurus debuted at Nascar in 1998 and captured 4 championships (3 Nextel and 1 Busch) and 100 race victories. The 2006 NASCAR Fusion will be raced by drivers Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Dale Jarett, Elliott Sadler, Greg Biffle, Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd and Carl Edwards. So far many of the drivers have reported positive test drives, saying the new design is better balanced than the Nascar Taurus and more comfortable. We’ll see if this translates to checkered flags for Ford on the track and at the dealerships. What are your thoughts?
