Ford Releases Teaser Photo of Supercharged 2015 5.0 Engine

It would seem the engineers at Ford Racing, and likely SVT have been busy preparing something cool for the 2015 Mustang. However, we do have to say it comes as no surprise, on March 15 the Ford Racing Facebook page posted their ’15 on the 15th update. This monthly update is something new for the S550 Mustang platform that was previously not public knowledge.

The update this month shows a supercharged Coyote engine on the engine dyno. While Ford Racing reps were silent about horsepower, or what model this engine is going in, it’s worth noting that this is likely the engine for the new GT350 model that we expect to see unveiled later this year. It could also just be that they’re already developing the calibration for the supercharger packages for the upcoming model so the parts will be ready when the car goes on sale.

We hope though that this is the GT350 engine, so let’s take a look at what we know about an upcoming GT350 model. We have all but officially confirmed that upcoming model via a leak from a dealer with a screenshot of their ordering page for Ford marketing materials. In the list of materials for 2015 models one was listed as GT350.

We have also continued to see lightly camouflaged test mules running around with what appears to be an air intake scoop in the hood, and cooling vents in the fenders. These cars also feature camouflaged wheel covers, and what appear to be some massive brakes and hiding behind a big wheel and tire package. We can only assume that these camo mules are in fact the GT350.

Of course the Ford Racing page offered no direct confirmation of what the horsepower rating will be on this new engine, or whether or not it’s going in a production car. From the photo notice that this is a Coyote engine based on the cam/valve covers, and that this engine does not use direct injection. Could this be an engine to hold us over until the Voodoo is unleashed?

Whoever is punching the keys at the Ford Racing Facebook page did note the current Coyote 5.0 with the Ford Racing supercharger produces 624 hp. Here’s to hoping for even more, and that it’s in a new GT350.
