Whether you’re looking to build your own racecar, or even purchase one, you may want to check out today’s find courtesy of eBay.
We came across this 2005 Ford Mustang FR500C racecar which is one of only 28 limited production examples today, and it’s available for purchase right now.
For those of you who are unaware of what the FR500C Mustang entails and the history behind it, grab yourself a cold drink of your choice, and we’ll work our magic. In a nutshell, the FR500C version of the Ford Mustang is essentially a turnkey racecar built on the same assembly line as the ’05-’09 S197 Mustang. The FR500C is very similar to the FR500CJ in the sense that these race-oriented Mustangs are not street-legal, and do not have a DOT VIN number. Instead, they are built with a specific Ford Racing serial number in place of where the VIN would appear.
The 5.0-liter DOHC 4-valve ‘Cammer’ V8 also uses a FR500C specific aluminum ‘Performance Intake Manifold’ from Ford Racing (PN M-9424-R50). Though it’s no longer available from FRPP, it’s considered the ‘holy grail’ of naturally-aspirated modular V8 intake manifolds.
The 5.0-liter DOHC 4-valve Cammer V8 and the technology it brought with it was good for a stout 420 horsepower; more than enough to handle the challenges that the GS Class in the Grand Am Grand Sport series.
The FR500C also utilized a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission, a fantastic choice for road-racing of course, and presumably an upgraded version of the T56 found in the ’03-’04 SVT Cobra.
Additional race-specific components included an integrated Grand Am specific roll-cage, which was approved for use in the aforementioned racing series, and a heavy dose of suspension modifications. Getting down to the specifics of this particular FR500C, this example is serial number 12 of 28 produced in 2005, and is an unmolested example. No modifications have been made to the vehicle, and the car comes to us from a private collection from what we’re told by it’s seller. According to the seller, the car was owned by former Roush Racing driver Mike Miller, and was even driven by Pete Halsmer and Stu Hayner during the 2006 Grand Am series. All three Roush Racers are veteran drivers with numerous championships.
With a prestigious victory under it’s belt like the Manufacturers Title in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge ‘Koni Challenge’ racing series in 2005 and in 2008, is this FR500C, a representation of history, on your bucket-list of cars to own?
