The Ford GT lineage is no stranger to honoring its history with special packages, but the latest is sure to give Blue Oval fans those nostalgic feels. The 2019-2020 Ford GT Heritage Edition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1968-1969 Le Mans wins recorded by the original GT40, and it does so with one of the most iconic paint schemes in automotive lore — the Gulf Oil livery.
…In honor of the 50th anniversary of its win, we’re paying fresh tribute to the original with a new heritage limited edition. — Joe Hinrichs, Ford
“We are delighted to partner with Ford to help the Gulf-themed Heritage Edition Ford GT become reality. The Ford Marque has played a major role in creating Gulf’s place in motoring and motorsport legend and the same is true in reverse,” Ravi Chawla, MD of Gulf Oil Lubricants India Ltd, said. “Every Gulf outright victory at Le Mans has been Ford-powered and of course Gulf Ford GT40s took the latter two wins of Ford’s four consecutive victories at Le Mans from 1966-1969. What could be more fitting than both brands coming together to produce this fantastic motor car — the modern spiritual successor to the amazing Gulf-Ford GT40s that took Le Mans and World Championship honors.”
There is more to the package than the combination of Heritage Orange over Heritage Blue paint, however. Cars ordered as Heritage Editions are adorned with #9 hood graphics as well as #9 graphics on the doors. The 2020 version of the package will feature #6 graphics to celebrate the 1969 Le Mans winner.
“Many view the Gulf Oil paint scheme as the most famous in motorsports,” Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, global operations, said. “The 1968 GT40 quickly became a global sensation after beating its European competitors on the track four times in a row, and in honor of the 50th anniversary of its win, we’re paying fresh tribute to the original with a new heritage limited edition.”
Beyond the retro livery, these vehicles feature a number of unique touches, including exposed carbon-fiber A-pillars, forged-aluminum wheels, orange brake calipers, silver mirror caps, unique seat upholstery, and more.
Of course, you have to be chosen for the right to purchase one of these rare and elite supercars, but if you make the cut, it would be hard to resist ordering this package on your new supercar.
