According to psychologists, whether an individual perceives a container as half-full or half-empty can be an indication of an optimistic or pessimistic attitude. In car care however, it doesn’t really make a difference whether you see a container as half-full or half-empty when that container is a funnel and you just filled your transmission beyond its fluid capacity. Even if your favorite song is “Don’t Worry Be Happy”, your jolly outlook is going to disintegrate when you try to quickly remove the funnel and it spills onto an exhaust manifold.
If you have ever overfilled your tranny fluid reservoir then you know the predicament of a half-full funnel. Next time it happens you won’t need to get underneath the car and drain off the excess if you have the new Proform “No Mess Funnel” in your arsenal. Sometimes the simplest designs are the most practical. The patented design uses a ball and hook design to shut off excess fluid when lifted out of a transmission or power steering filler tube. Once you remove the half-full funnel, the excess fluid can be transferred back to the original container.
See how this new funnel performs…
We gave the Proform ‘No Mess Funnel’ a try on Project MX since the Montego’s C4 was in need of topping off. The filler tube is in tight spot between the fire wall and rear of the engine block. The funnel’s narrow design fit the spot nicely, we were sure to catch the hook on the side of the transmission filler tube.
After intentionally overfilling the C4, we pulled the half-full funnel out of the transmission filler tube. Other than a few drops of fluid that were left on the ball-and-hook, no fluid escaped the funnel. The fluid that was displaced by the funnel settled back into the transmission.
Just as the product specified, we returned the excess fluid to the original container by setting the hook on the lip of the bottle and inserting the funnel.
Finally, we wiped the funnel clean. By enlarging the picture you can see the actual ball and hook design that protrudes from the bottom of the funnel.See www.proformparts.com for more on the ‘No Mess Funnel’ and information on where the item can be purchased.
