The pressure that comes with going rounds at a big event can be crushing — some racers fold under the intense emotions of the situation and will red-light a victory away or make some other costly error. But seasoned racer and Street Outlaws cast member Kayla Morton has dealt with the stresses of high-level drag racing and proven she’s a cool customer, and her calm demeanor behind the wheel earned her a victory at the Dirty South No Prep Racing Series event this past weekend at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston, Texas.
Morton has competed at many different levels in drag racing across a variety of classes, and always brings her A-game to the starting line — perhaps a genetic trait from her father, Stanley Morton, who was a drag racer in his own right. Recently, Morton has taken her talents to the No Prep and grudge racing worlds, quickly becoming a player in these genres of racing. Her determination to turn on the win light has led her to clash with some of the best in the No Prep world.
Over the course of this racing season Morton has been knocking on the door of victory many times, but never had all the cards fall her way. At the Dirty South event at Royal Purple Raceway, however, Morton’s ice-cold nerves paid off as she ran the gauntlet of very tough competitors in the Big Tire class, most notably taking down No Prep king James “Birdman” Finney on her path to a final round defeat of Ryan Taggart in “Swamp Thing”.
