There are a lot of options for upgrading the clutch on your late model Mustang. One of the companies we’ve had a lot of first-hand experience with is McLeod. McLeod has spent decades developing clutch technology, and their lineup for late model Coyote Mustangs now includes two single disc offerings, as well as their RST and RXT twin disc offerings.
Singles
McLeod recently released two single disc clutch offerings for 5.0 Coyote powered vehicles.
The first of these offerings is the Street Pro, part number 75153. This clutch is ideal for the mild bolt on enthusiasts who want to upgrade from their factory clutch. The Street Pro, has an organic friction material clutch-disc and sprung hub. These give the clutch smooth engagement, while offering improved performance.
The other new single disc offering is from the Super Street Pro line. Part number 75253 is rated to hold 500 hp, this clutch kit features a twin faced disc for increased holding power. This means one side of the disc features an organic friction material, while the other side features a metallic material. According to McLeod this makes the clutch ideal for modified cars and more aggressive driving situations like the occasional trip to the track, while still remaining street friendly.
Street Friendly Duals
If you own a Coyote making even more power, then from here you’re likely ready to step up to either the RST or RXT. Both of these are the latest variations on McLeod’s popular street twin line. We installed a RXT in our project Wild E Coyote not long ago, and have been pleased with the performance.
The RST uses two organically lined discs, and can hold up to 800 hp. Part number 6912-25 is for 23-spline applications and 6912-07 is for 26-spline applications.
The RXT utilizes ceramic lined discs and is rated to hold up to 1,000 hp. Part number 6932-25 is for 23-spline applications. If you need a RXT for a 26-spline application we recommend talking to the McLeod tech line first in order to get the correct spline count on the clutch discs.
No matter what kind of power your street going Coyote is cranking out, chances are McLeod has a clutch solution for you. For more information on these or their other products check the McLeod web-site.
