The Grand-Am Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge is one of the most exciting series in racing. We follow the series here at StangTV, this series is where some of the fastest production based race cars in the world compete against one another. While the cars are race prepped, they are still based around their street going cousins, and representative of what the chassis and engines are capable of in the proper hands.
We recently came across this video that follows the number 59 Rehagen Racing Moon Pie BOSS 302R at the Grand-Am Diamond Cellar Classic at Mid-Ohio back in early June. The video portrays the drama that goes on through a race weekend, and the truly competitive nature of this form of racing. While we convey that drama in our coverage, it’s a whole different animal to see it in motion, hear the cars, the drivers, and their crews. For us it doesn’t get much better than hearing those 5.0 engines screaming through the gears around the track.
Something cool from the video that the casual fan may not have observed before is the driver change. Grand-Am pit stops often take a little longer than other race series because the cars are typically piloted by two drivers. In this case it’s the young Roddey Sterling and experienced Rehagen Racing veteran, as well as former Ford engineer Dean Martin.
The emotion of the teams, and the adrenaline of racing in such a competitive series is all captured here. It’s an inside look at a racing series we wish more of the Mustang faithful would take interest in.
You can follow the Grand-Am series coverage right here at StangTV, our man Wes Duenkel captures the action at each race, and brings us the results often before they air on television. The season is about to wrap up at Lime Rock, late this month, and we’ll have all the action right here. Until then, enjoy the video and check out our archive or Grand-Am race recaps and photo galleries.
