Ford 5.0-Liter Named in Best Ten by Ward’s

Ward’s Auto World has released their Ten Best Engines list for 2010. The yearly list often sees repeat winners, but the auto industry has been busy recently and only two carryovers made it this time around.

The new 5.0-liter V8 engine from Ford was hailed as one of the Ten Best this year. About the engine, Wards’ editors commented, “For ’11, the all-aluminum “Five-Oh” returns, dazzling potential buyers with 412 hp and advanced twin independent variable camshaft timing, which boosts low-end torque, peak power and fuel economy.”

There is little doubt that the only thing this motor shares with its older namesake is attitude. New technologies are solving the puzzle of making big power, while keeping emissions and gas consumption to a minimum, while technologies and materials are delivering longer lasting and more reliable engines than ever before.

The all-new aluminum DOHC engine combines performance oriented features like cross-bolted main bearing journals and a baffled, deep sump oil pan, with dual independent camshaft timing and high tech cylinder coatings to eliminate sleeving the engine block. It is widely speculated that the engine has also been designed to run in a direct injection configuration as well.
