Ford insiders have leaked plans to re-introduce the famous “Rent-a-Racer” program where one could rent a special 1966 Shelby GT350H through Hertz. Rumour has it that later this year Hertz will rent a limited number of 2006 Mustang GT’s likely painted in black and gold stripes like the cars in the original program. The new Hertz GT’s will be tuned by Shelby American in Las Vegas to produce approximately 20 HP more than the 300 HP rating of the stock Mustang GT.
Considering you can’t even rent a standard 5-speed GT through Hertz, the new GT350H will surely be a popular upgrade - assuming any of the cars are returned after the first rental.
My tribute to this rent a race come back is an very nice drawing of 2006 Gt350 Hertz reflecting the old 1966 model..

I’ll be looking forward to renting one of these for racing in Grand Am or something similar. 300HP on a manual transmission ? Quickly bolt in a fire extinguisher, rollcage and belts and take it to the track ! Cheap racecar !!!!
By Florida Rental Racer. May 15th, 2006 at 10:21 amAfter the rental period expires, will Hertz sell these cars to the general public like they did the 1966 version?
By David Allen. April 28th, 2006 at 3:36 pmI remember when my dad back in ‘66 brought home one of the first GT350H Mustangs. It was black and gold and my yonger brother and I just could not get over how neat this car was. My dad worked for Hertz back then and was an Asstanit City Manager in Minneapolis, MN.
By Howard Kirchenbauer. April 21st, 2006 at 2:12 pmThose were the days!!!
When these were no longer made Hertz bought Boss 302’s and Cougar Elimators.
The sixties were such great preformance car years!!!
I miss them.
Excellent to see Hertz doing something so cool, again! But Hertz, please don’t forget about supplying your Canadian branches too.
By Now We’re Talkin’. April 12th, 2006 at 8:55 amHells Yah! As a Hertz employee and Mustang fan, word of the new Shelby GT350 for Hertz just totally roxors! I can’t wait to drive them and take one home!
By Kyle McManus. April 9th, 2006 at 5:56 pmMan, what a great idea. I own a 2005 Mustang GT and love it.
Making these cars available for rental will surely increase Fords sales and bring a ton of business to Hertz.
Thanks
