Yawn…another Shelby unveiled.

Super SnakeShelby Automobiles will use Ford Racing GT500 ‘performance packs’ to help transform a limited number of 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby GT500’s into fire breathing “Super Snake” coupes. The Super Snake post-title package will include enhancements to the Ford Shelby GT500’s handling, styling and power; tuning options will range from a warranted 600 HP V8 to over 725 HP (unwarranted). Only a limited number of Super Snakes will be built per model year at the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas beginning in late 2007.

“My team at Shelby Automobiles is always working on new ways to build better performing cars” said Carroll Shelby. “I told them that I wanted to build a vehicle that could blow the doors off of most anything on the planet. By partnering with Ford Racing, we’re giving enthusiasts a Mustang with that level of performance.”

Working together at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and in Dearborn, Ford Racing and Team Shelby developed the aggressive suspension and engine package specifically for the car.

“Mustang enthusiasts are demanding more from both Ford Racing and Shelby Autos” said Jamie Allison, Manager of Ford Racing Performance Group. “The GT500 Super Snake package, with its higher horsepower levels and balanced track-inspired tuning, satisfies those demands and then some … in a uniquely Ford – Shelby way.”

In 1967, Shelby American built one 427-powered GT500 “Super Snake” for Mel Burns Ford. Carroll Shelby drove it at the Goodyear test track for tire promotion film production. That car reached lap speeds of over 150 mph and a top speed of 170 mph. The new Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake will be equally potent.

“The name ‘Super Snake’ is legendary because the one that Shelby built was the pinnacle of muscle cars in 1967,” added Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “We’re bringing that concept forward 40 years for customers who own a Ford Shelby GT500. We’ll give their car amazing new capabilities.”

Ford Racing and Team Shelby developed the GT500 Super Snake package which will include:

* Ford Racing Supercharger upgrade kit (SuperPack 600) producing over 600 horsepower and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque
* 6-speed manual transmission with 3.73:1 rear axle ratio
* Ford Racing performance exhaust system
* Ford Racing Handling Pack offering unique performance suspension tuning including Dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars, and front strut tower brace
* Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels
* Ford Racing short-throw shifter
* Baer 6 piston brakes with Shelby cast calipers and larger rotors
* Front brake cooling ducts
* Unique carbon composite hood featuring classic Shelby design
* ‘Shelby’ lettering across the front edge of hood and rear decklid
* ‘Super Snake’ vehicle badging
* Carroll Shelby signature embroidered headrests and floor mats, and other Shelby designed components
* Official Shelby CSM dash plate

In addition, while the full Super Snake package will be available exclusively through Shelby Automobiles, many of the products comprising the Super Snake package will be available from Shelby Automobiles and Ford Racing starting in June.

  1. it is the shit for 600 hp , for a muscle car. cheap ass mustangs will not go as fast as the “SUPER SNAKE”

  2. The SUPER Snake. Ooooooh. MSRP is 45K but you’ll have to fork over 75 large for this baby because it’s not just a Shelby, it’s a SUPER Snake. Pony up stud.

  3. Haha…wow, I really dont even want to read about this one, because all it ever is just a hopped up kit from the GT500 (a new approach to save drowning Ford).

  4. I don’t think it’s boring. It’s great Ford is willing to actually attempt to make badass cars - remember the late 70’s when a 302 2v with a bunch of stickers on the body was their version of a muscle car? Or back in ‘82 when the Mustang GT came out - a 157 hp 302-2v. The ad read, ” The Boss Is Back!” THAT was ‘yawn’. Ford does need to make a bare-bones badass car. Something we all can afford. Tell me they won’t sell a boat load of 400-450 hp monsters that are priced around $20K.

  5. The spotlights have barely cooled on the GT500KR’s show stand in New York, and already Ford and Shelby are trumpeting new additions to the Mustang stable. Ford Racing has apparently conjured up some Super Snake “performance packs” for the already formidable Shelby GT500 which will see the ponycar generate up to 600 horsepower (warranted), or 725 hp sans ford cold air intake - http://www.coldairintakedirect.com/brands/ford-racing.html - for the Devil May Care crowd.

  6. O WOW, It’s sold by Shelby!

    So are the shelby GT-H and the CS6. Who cares?

    I still think its funny that the GT500s arent ‘real’ Shelby’s.

  7. Nine responses (to date) and ONE person understood that Shelby American is selling the car.

    Amazing.

  8. yawn is right

    oh look honey another mustang that i can afford looks like i’ll have to keep my 95 forever.
    what ford needs to do is just build a base model mustang thats all motor and no bullshit for under 25K
    no a/c, power steering, radio, power seat for all i care have one seat in the damn thing, no fancy rims give me steel wheels.
    all i want is a 351 based motor like a 5.4 or 5.8 (they need to stop with this small cubes garbage) and a bulletproof trans and rear. i don’t care if they wrap cloth over a milk crate for the seat. we all end up changing 80% of the car anyways. so just give my the good stuff where it counts.
    they want 30K for a mustang that just as ugly on the outside as it is on the inside. shame on you ford and pull your head out of your @ss

  9. If I’m reading this right, this isn’t another Ford move, this is a Shelby (read aftermarket) move.

    “Shelby Automobiles will use Ford Racing GT500 ‘performance packs’ to help transform a limited number of 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby GT500’s into fire breathing “Super Snake” coupes.”

    I agree with the yawn and the fact that there need to be more ‘affordable’ performance options, like the Mach1 and Bullitt a couple years ago. I really could care less for (yet another) super-powerful incarnation of the new Mustang that only people with sufficient disposable income can afford. What’s the fun in writing a check and driving it off the lot? What pride can you take in something when all you did was pay for it?

  10. So much for Shelby hating Ford for screwing him over…Anyway, all that Ford needs is to make a Mach 1 or a Boss 302 or 330 and throw in the 3V 330 not tuned for trucks (like the 5.7 Hemi in the Charger). Also, some nice options like offering 3V and 4V heads as options on every engine. The fix is that simple. More options and the 5.4 as an option.

  11. I don’t think yawn is right, but a bit much on the Shelby’s alone. Ford has this as the top performer in the stable, continue ahead and bring out the Boss, or Mach 1 or the Bullitt. I still think the excuses of not having cars people want is an easy fix, re-introduce a Falcon, Fairlane, Torino or Galaxie. Anyone who’s ever been in a new Cobra will say, they are nothing short of amazing, but don’t let that be your be all and end all car, cover some of your practical bases too! Not every person can afford these Cobra’s either!

  12. Why not a Falcon like in Australia? Or that interceptor concept, or something new? The interceptor uses the mustang frame, so it could use any of the engines. Imagine a 03-04 cobra powered interceptor car making 390 hp? Or how about a fusion powered by the engine in the Typhoon in Australia?

    Ford is doing what killed them in the first place. Putting all their eggs into one basket. First it was trucks and SUVs, now its Mustangs. When the Camaro and Challenger come out Ford will have to find a way to deal with the loss of all those sales. The mustang name alone won’t pull bowtie or mopar people away from a 400+ NA engine. Why would you want a measly 300 or even 350? Diversify or die, GMs working on it. Ford seems to be forgetting why they are in the position they are in. Too few products that people want to buy. Time to do some redeigns and more exciting cars in appearance and performance.

  13. Agree with the yawn. Why won’t Ford produce a performance car without the name Mustang. I’m getting so sick of Mustang this, Mustang that. How about something in the Monte Carlo looks department with a little more performance and something us po folks can afford.

  14. I think its pretty sweet, like they said, it will blow the doors off anything on the road, if you can afford it. They problem they are having, is the need to go the other way too, more affordable than the GT500, with maybe a little less performance. And a lot more units produced.

    How about a blower on a Mustang GT, Making around 400 hp and MSRP $35,000.

  15. Yup, yawn is right. This is starting to make me really look forward to the new Camaro and Challenger coming out.

  16. Another perfect title.

    The amount of money people are paying for ADMs on the regular Shelby GT500’s makes me sick, I cant wait to see what people will pay for this.
