It’s Mustang Girl Monday brought to you by Team Mustang Girls. This week we’re following the story of Daphne Robbins-Norris and her 1965 convertible.
Daphne grew up in a family of Mustang lovers. Her father ordered a ’66 GT and her mother drove a ’65 when they first started dating. Her dad also worked at the Norwalk Drag strip and growing up she can remember him telling stories about all the fun times they had with the cars. When she turned 15 Daphne knew she wanted a Mustang. It took her 6 months to find her car and in July of ’88 she found a 66 C code coupe. But it was well worth the wait, she fell in love with the car. Unfortunately six months before she was married, her husband was driving it and a Pony Express truck ran a red light and totaled her car. Her husband’s joke was that she cried more over the car than him.
After the insurance was settled she bought a 65 fastback from a local Mustang dealer describing it now as “the worst car ever”. After about 6 months she traded it for a ’65 convertible which became her daily driver for years. After that she had a ’91 LX Hatchback and a ’94 GT. Daphne’s passion reignited her fathers and he decided to try to find a Mustang similar to his first car. In the summer of ’94 they found a ’66 GT in British Racing Green. The only difference was this one had parchment interior and his first had black.
Daphne’s car got parked when she had to get a bigger vehicle for her family. She still went to all the anniversary shows and at the 45th vowed that her car would make it to the 50th. She got out in the garage and started to break it down, finishing it the weekend before the 50th.

Unfortunately her father passed away in 2000 but her mom still drives his car and together they all go to car shows and cruise-ins. Daphne’s boys have followed family tradition as well. Her oldest is 19 and got a 69 Mach 1 as project car when he was 15 and her youngest has a 65 coupe. Each week Team Mustang Girls features a different woman and her Mustang.
