After dominating many drag radial racing classes over the years, legendary racer and record-setter John Kolivas stepped back last year, selling off his car to Daniel Pharris and vowing to take some time off from racing. We all know that good racers don’t land on the scrap heap; instead, Kolivas stepped into a tuner role, assuming the laptop of Shane Fisher and helping Fisher’s X275 efforts to set records and win numerous races during the 2013 campaign.

So when he called us yesterday with news that he was teaming up with longtime engine builder Jon Bennett to form KBXtreme Performance, we were not surprised in the least. The plan is for the company to offer a one-stop-shop for tuning and combination solutions centered around their skills in the marketplace. They will specialize in all facets of the heads-up racing industry, supplying parts from turbochargers to boost controllers to engine management systems and torque converters, and even a new line of KBX-specific engine parts. In addition, Kolivas’ tuning services will be available to the general public.

They’ve also hired Joel Greathouse’s longtime crew chief Justin McChesney as the Sales and Marketing director of the new venture.

“I am excited about making my tuning services officially available to the racing community, and look forward to putting our customers’ racing programs to the front by providing the same fundamentals that I used during my racing career. Partnering with Jon Bennett made perfect sense, as he has provided class leading horsepower to all aspects of drag racing – naturally aspirated, turbocharged, supercharged, and nitrous combinations – and this will allow KBX to service a diverse customer base. I am also excited to have Justin join our team. His attention to detail and drive to succeed is equal to Jon and myself,” Kolivas explains.
