We are just days away from the kickoff to the 2014 NMRA season. We’re counting it down as StangTV staff will be on site for the NMRA Spring Break Shootout in Bradenton, Florida in just a few days, bringing you same day coverage from the race all weekend long. Leading up to the event, we’ve seen our Facebook feeds, and inboxes flood with videos of heavy hitters testing before heading to one of the biggest races of the season.
Making her return to NMRA competition this year after a two year hiatus is Rebecca Starkey. The wife of VMP Tuning mastermind Justin Starkey, Rebecca put the Coyote powered crowd on notice two years ago at the NMRA event in Budds Creek, Maryland where she laid down a record setting 9.79 ET at 140 MPH, with the stock engine, transmission, and help from a VMP/ROUSH supercharger package. She then drove her combo as her daily driver for the rest of that summer before pulling the engine, intent on building a stouter combination capable of even faster times on the track.
Family and career intervened, and Rebecca took time off from racing to give birth to her and Justin’s two daughters. She also took that time to further her career as an ARNP. With the kids a little older, racing has once again made it’s way high on Rebecca’s list of activities.
With the help of her husband Justin, as well as TRZ, ROUSH, and VMP, Rebecca’s black GT is again back on track, and already present in Bradenton where she made some test hits this past weekend. Upgrades to the car include a Ford Racing Aluminator crate engine, numerous upgrades to the supercharger system via ROUSH, and VMP, and a custom fitted cage to keep the car safe and legal on the track. The Starkey’s are tight-lipped on the horsepower numbers, and have yet to settle on which class Rebecca will take part in. Look for Rebecca and the VMP crew at the NMRA Spring Break Shootout this coming weekend, whichever class she decides to run, you can bet Rebecca is going to make some headlines this season.
