The NMRA season opener in Bradenton, Florida is month away yet and the vast majority of the series’ competitors are still digging their way out of a couple feet of snow that buried a third of the country last week, but for racers in the popular Super Street Outlaw category, the gauntlet has already been laid down.

During a test session attended by many of the elite teams in the sport down at Palm Beach International Raceway in south Florida, newcomer Andrew DeMarco uncorked what is unofficially the quickest lap to date for the “10.5” Tire Freak Show” with an incredible 7.22 at a booming 194 miles per hour. The current national record in the class stands at a mere 7.33 seconds, although Sam Vincent and John MacDonald have both dipped into the twenties without official backups occurring.

Eric Dillard and tuning wizard Steve Petty of Proline Race Engines, both of whom were instrumental in the enormous turbocharged horsepower being produced from the 414 cubic inch mill under the hood were both in attendance and assisting in the setup department to make this pass happen. The numbers? 1.21 60′, 3.17 to the 330′, 4.74 at 158 to half track, and 7.22 and 194 at the boards. And as you can clearly se in the video, there was some elapsed time left in the table after a relatively soft launch. Demarco and the DMC bunch were promising big things when the ominous black Fox debuted last fall, and they’ve already delivered on their statement. The nitrous and blower combos just got some company at the front.
