It isn’t often a Mustang Club of America National Show is held in an extraordinarily memorable place the likes of Tuacahn just minutes from the Zion National Park outside of St. George in Southern Utah. Known as the Mustang Showdown At The Red Rock Corral held by the Northern Utah Mustang Owners Association (NUMOA), this has to have been one of the more memorable MCA shows we’ve ever attended.
Think of the Mustang Showdown At The Red Rock Corral like you would a great classic sitcom because it was the perfect chemistry that made it work so well. Location, people, Mustangs, a great concert, and some of the most incredible driving routes you’ve ever seen if you had the good fortune of being there. First – the location. Tuacahn is located amid a blistering, glowing red canyon 120 miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada. Tuachan is a Mayan word for “Canyon of the Gods” – and so it was. A heavenly quiet spot amid the rocks for a great car show, concert, and awards presentation.
The Northern Utah Mustang Owners Association sure knows how to stage an event, and with plenty of happy participants who love Mustangs.
People – thousands from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Australia. Sean McDonagh of bosskraft.com and Australia arrived with several others from down under to take in the great American West and help do concours judging. Kevin Marti of Marti Auto Works was on hand to teach enthusiasts about vehicle fraud and how to authenticate classic Mustangs. Donald Farr, editor of Mustang Monthly Magazine and Boss 302 author/historian shook hands with the masses and autographed his new Boss 302 book. Author and historian Jerry Heasley walked the cars, shook hands, and did what he does best – shoot cars and tell great stories.
Red Rock was home to exciting Mustang finds, like this '69 428 Cobra Jet Grande and low mileage '84 SVO.
Mustangs? You bet! Roughly 400 of them from 48 years of continuous production because Ford and Mustang buyers never gave up on the name and spirit. No other American nameplate, except Ford’s legendary F-Series trucks, can lay claim to being in production for as long.
What made Mustangs At The Red Rock Corral extraordinary was its location in the heart of the American West. No wonder people come from around the world to experience a place like Tuacahn just outside of St. George, Utah. Pony Trails included Zion National Park in the company of dozens of Mustangs covering the gamut of pony car history.
Red Rock was just the spot for anyone who enjoys Mustangs and the company of Mustang enthusiasts. A concert, learning seminars, judged showing for hard core buffs, and the opportunity to hook up with great friends. Dunno about you, but we can’t wait for the next MCA National Show at Red Rock.
