The Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (or CTSC) is a grand touring series of events which is held around the world by the International Motor Sports Association. One of this year’s events, held at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada – was very important for Multimatic Motorsports and its Shelby GT350R-C.
While this wasn’t Multimatic’s first race they’ve won during the events, it was the first win for Austin Cindric, at the age of only 16 years old. After driver Billy Johnson lead the first 19 laps in the No. 15 Shelby GT350R-C, Scott Maxwell took on driving duties after Johnson’s pitstop for fuel and new tires. Just a few laps in, and the Shelby was unfortunately out of commission due to another driver colliding with him during the passing of a slow lapped car.
Although one of the two Shelby GT350R-C’s was down and out, Multimatic made a bold move by putting Cindric behind the wheel of the only car available: the No. 158. As if that wasn’t enough pressure for young Cindric, he had a lot to prove since he was racing at the team’s home track, and he still had 45 minutes left to finish first in the race – and 30 of those minutes spent by Matt Plumb in the Rum Bum Racing Porsche right behind him. Who by the way, has the most wins as a driver in the Continental Challenge history.
“It feels great to be able to come here in my rookie season and be able to run with a team like Multimatic, it’s really special,” said Cindric. “They give me the car to win the race and I have to go out and do my job and prove that I can do it. With a great teammate like Jade, and also Billy and Scott it’s a great opportunity.”
