The Shelby Cobra is a car that every enthusiast should at least try to get some seat time in at one point in their life. Lightweight, and brutally overpowered, blasting down the road in a Cobra is like riding a roller coaster for the first time, a lot of fun, and at the same time very frightening. We recently came across a feature over at Automedia on celebrity Chef Guy Fieri and his own Shelby Cobra.
Fieri’s car is not a replica, but a real continuation series Cobra put together by the team at DenBeste Motorsports. It also boasts a real side oiler big block under the hood based around an FE block, and boasting nearly 500 cubic inches. The combination is good for 600 horsepower, and while Fieri is admittedly a bow-tie guy at heart, he says that the Cobra altered his thinking in terms of g-force, and acceleration ability. “I thought I really knew horsepower and torque and g-force. I can’t believe the FAA doesn’t require a pilot’s license for these cars. A naturally aspirated 427 big-block is a can of whup-ass,” said Feiri in the interview.
Bill DenBeste over at DenBeste Motorsports, who is also a friend of Fieri’s was instrumental in getting the chef behind the wheel. All it took was a test drive in DenBeste’s personal car and Fieri was hooked.
