The 2013 GT500 is special for a lot of reasons. With it’s 662 hp 5.8L engine, and 200 mph top speed it’s known worldwide as an astute performer. It’s also the last GT500 that will have been developed under the watchful eyes of Shelby American founder, and automotive performance legend, Carroll Shelby.
No doubt that even decades from now there will still be some out there building tribute cars to the man who inspired us all to reach for the sky when it came to horsepower, and to hug every corner. The first and no doubt most special of these tribute cars is the one presented here.
Constructed by friends of Carroll Shelby, Ford Motor Company, Ford Racing, Shelby American, and others. This GT500 Cobra packs a 4.0 liter Whipple supercharger that boosts power output to over 850 horsepower. It also wears a unique Shelby American wide body kit. That kit allows the snake to swallow massive 20×10 front wheels and 20×13 rears. The rears are shod in 345 series rubber.
Shelby American also provided new upgraded Wilwood brakes for the car, as well as constructed a one of a kind hood. The car is finished in colors that are familiar to Cobra lovers as well. The main hue is Guardsman blue, while the racing stripes are done in Wimbledon White.
Shelby, especially during his later years was well known for his charity work. In recent years he’d partnered with Ford and others to bring special cars to the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ , to be auctioned for good causes. This car will be no different. It will cross the block this coming Saturday at approximately 1:00PM Mountain time. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to celebrate the life of one of the most storied performance car builders in automotive history.
