Centerforce has been a key name in the Mustang performance aftermarket since Fox-body Stangs started making huge leaps in popularity during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The company has continued their extensive research, development, and offering of products for the latest Mustangs to hit the road.
For enthusiasts with Coyote powered Mustangs looking to upgrade their clutch, or those who are starting a new build, Centerforce offers a variety of clutch kits that range from an upgraded clutch with more holding power over stock, to clutches for cars making hardcore horsepower, or those that see frequent trips to the track.
The first clutch in the lineup is the Dual Friction. The Dual Friction is designed for enthusiasts who want more holding power but without sacrificing pedal effort and feel. With Centerforce’s dual friction design the pressure plate side is fully faced to enhance drivability, while the driver’s side features a segmented, puck-style facing for positive engagement. Centerforce offers clutches for both the stock MT82 setup, and those upgraded to a 26 spline input shaft transmission, such as the Tremec T-56 Magnum XL. The stock style spline clutch kit is part number DF023500, while the 26 spline style kit is part number DF148500.
Stepping things up is the DFX series clutch, designed for competition oriented use, this SFI approved clutch system offers increased holding ability, while maintaining a light pedal effort. The DFX utilizes Centerforce’s patented ball bearing pressure plate, and their counterweight system for increased clamping loads. This clutch also requires the use of a Centerforce flywheel. DFX for the Coyote is part number 010123500.
Last but not least is the ultimate in clutch technology from Centerforce, the DYAD drive system. The DYAD was designed for cars making as much as 1,300 ft-lbs of torque. This clutch can offer the extreme holding capability that those vehicles demand, while still being street friendly enough to handle daily driving duties. The DYAD offers easy pedal effort, smooth engagement, and extreme clamping power. Centerforce includes the flywheel with this system, and there’s no messing with adjustments, or setup to be done here. The DYAD drive system is available for both stock MT-82 transmissions as part number 04234805 and 26 spline transmissions like the T-56 Magnum XL as part number 04114805.
