Consumer Reports has released their face-off results between the V6 versions of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. The October issue of their magazine goes on sale today and shows that the Mustang earned a Very Good road test score, compared to the Good score attained by the Camaro. In a similar shootout last year between V8 versions, the Mustang also outscored the Camaro.
“The Mustang is the more agile and enjoyable car to drive of the two,” said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports’ Auto Test Center in East Haddam, CT.
As tested, the Mustang’s price was $28,660, compared to $28,195 for the 2LT Camaro. Areas where the organization felt the Mustang to be superior included acceleration, fuel economy, ride comfort, steering and the 6-speed manual transmission. Both cars scored similarly in braking and interior evaluations, although the Camaro’s steering wheel was pointed out as being nicer.
Overall, they felt that “opting for a V6 engine did not overly dilute the fun factor in driving the Mustang, but it did for the Camaro.”
The Mustang also received a “Recommended” status from Consumer Reports. The Camaro is too recent to have generated the needed reliability data for Recommended status.
Full test results are available in the October issue of Consumer Reports, or via subscription to their web site.
