The 2015 Mustang has barely been on the streets for two months, and we’re already seeing plenty of wrecked examples show up in various places. Our latest find is a crashed 2015 Mustang GT, that has been hit in the passenger side rear, with less than 1,000 miles on the odometer. We found this one at the Insurance Auto Auctions site.

This GT, appears to be a red automatic, and when we see it, all we can think is race car build. Consider this, with extensive work needed to the rear of the car, this one could still be repaired, and with the low mileage, it makes the car that much more enticing.

We haven’t seen anyone swap a solid axle into the rear of one of these cars yet. Since the IRS is totaled, why not pull it out, swap in the solid 8.8 or 9-inch, and start building a drag car? While there is obviously other work, the fact that the rear of the car needs it is what is so appealing to us. Any custom fabrication for getting a solid axle could require hacking up the rear frame anyway.

Other tempting propositions would be to repair the rear of the car, keep the IRS, and then go wide, very wide, with the rear. We know you can fit some massive rubber under a stock 2015 without doing any modifications. What could you do if you built custom wide rear quarter panels? There’s huge potential here.

The other side of the coin is, if you’re handy enough, you could probably pick this car up, repair it, and be driving a new GT for pennies on the dollar.
