Over the last fifteen years or so, Dan Millen has performed well in every class he’s attempted, from NMRA Super Street Outlaw all the way up to the ADRL’s Pro Extreme. His XTF-turned-PX car was sold off, as Dan’s spent the last year-and-some working hand-in-hand with Jerry Bickel Race Cars to complete the awesome machine you see here. Millen and his team have been working hard to get the new car completed, and have plans to run it in 2013 in the newly-formed X-DRL’s Pro X-Treme class.
There are many revolutionary ideas put forth in the construction of the car, chief among them the full titanium front section. Yes, you read that correctly – titanium abounds in this machine, from the front control arms to the four-link bars and even the transmission tunnel. With the incredible times a car like this is expected to put down, Millen was looking for the ultimate in strength while still being able to get the car light enough to move weight around where he needed it to take advantage of the liberal chassis rules for a car of this caliber.
The drivetrain is from the old combination and features a Brad Anderson Engineering Hemi complete with PSI blower and a a Bruno/Lenco converter-driven manual transmission. The chassis has been designed from the outset to use all of the power the engine is capable of making, which is a different scenario than he once faced in XTF action. There, the team always needed to pull some power out in order to get down the track cleanly, but the new Mickey Thompson 15-inch-wide meats will take everything he’s got this time around. As it’s been over a year in construction, Millen is excited to get it out on the track for the first event of the season, and we’re excited to see him get it there and show off what the new X-DRL series is all about. One thing’s for sure – he won’t rest until he’s at the top of the class, like always.
