If you happen to own 1985-1989 Ford Vehicle, love stock car racing, and want to show off your ride at Darlington Raceway, then this a great opportunity for you. The Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR is being held at the Bojangles’ Southern 500 event at Darlington Rcaeway September 1-3, 2017.
At this throwback event, Ford Performance is honoring NASCAR Hall of Famers and celebrating Fords from select years from the 1980s. These ’85-’89 Fords will serve a variety of functions throughout the event, including honorary pace car duty, grand marshall cars, and display vehicles. Fortunately, Cole Trickle won’t be out on the track so there is no reason to fear damage or the Darlington stripe, if your ride is selected to serve as the honorary pace car at the Bojangles Southern 500.
Along with the honorary pace car duty, the vehicle selected will take part in the Southern 500 parade on Saturday evening.
If you vehicle is not selected for as pace car, there are four to six cars needed to serve as grand marshall cars that will take part in the parade lap prior to the start of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cap Series race. These cars will be used to transport dignitaries around the track as well as participating in the Saturday evening parade. For those vehicles selected for display vehicle duty, these cars will be part of a Ford Performance consumer display at Darlington Raceway.
For those interested in taking part in this retro event, go to the Ford Performance site for the email address to submit your information along with photos of your car by May 31st. The spots will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. If selected, your entry into race will be included. However, accommodations and travel expenses are the sole responsibility of the car owners.
