In the land of sunny, Southern California, the Mustang continues to be the best selling sports car of 2015. More specifically, the EcoBoost model. And it’s for good reason, too. Like our 2015 EcoBoost, Project 5-Liter Eater – we too are reaping the benefits of a 300-plus horsepower car, while retaining a similar factory rated mpg estimate.
It comes as no surprise that younger, more performance-oriented buyers in the Southern California area are now more than ever, considering purchasing a Mustang as their next car.
Statistics from Ford show that buyers between the ages of 16 and 35 years old in Southern California, have accounted for a staggering 47 percent of sales on the EcoBoost model this year. While these numbers are impressive, what’s even more impressive however, is that 56 percent of that demographic, are first-time Ford buyers. More specifically, EcoBoost buyers.
What this ultimately translates to, is that by the numbers above, the EcoBoost Mustang only spends an average of 16 days on a dealer’s lot before they’re purchased. This allows the EcoBoost to live up to it’s title, as the world’s fastest-selling sports car. Ford believes the tremendous growth in appeal of the EcoBoost Mustang is due to key factors, such as a 310 horsepower engine, an independent rear suspension (a first for the Mustang’s 50 year history), a rating of 31 mpg on the highway, and its pricing, to be the main contributions to the car’s success. The idea is that this appeals to every demographic, young and older, to deliver a sports car that is both modern and unique.
But with all the hype around the EcoBoost Mustang, we can’t help but wonder what could be in store for the base model V6 car. Do you think Ford would discontinue it?
