ElginRacing Wins 13-Hour Charge Of The Headlight Brigade

ElginRacing has picked up another huge victory as the team of three drivers piloted their #00 Ford Mustang BOSS 302R to capture the 2014 North Carolina Region SCCA’s Charge of the Headlight Brigade 13 hour endurance race at Virginia International Raceway. But it didn’t come easy…

Throughout the majority of the event, the team’s biggest challenge was the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car driven by professional drivers Randy Pobst, Tom Long and Jim Taggart. The Elgin Racing team and the GT3 exchanged the lead over ten times throughout the first 12 hours. But, in pushing to keep up with the Ford, the Porsche slammed into a tire barrier handing second to a Radical SR3 with only an hour left on the clock.

From there you would think it would be smooth sailing, however a rear suspension failure brought the Ford crew into the pits for repair. They managed to limp their Boss 302R across the finish line 48 seconds ahead of the second place #61 Radical SR3 driven by Graham, Gregory and Latham. When it was finished the team managed to finish an incredible 345 laps around the difficult Virginia course.

“Focus, commitment, attention to the small details, an abundance of heart, a great MEATHEAD crew led by Mike Collins, and the mutual trust shared by the ElginRacing Team allowed us to clinch a huge win against some really gracious and professional competitors. We realize each of those fine racers could be standing on the podium on any given day,” said Ben Jacobs, ElginRacing’s founder. “All of the strategic preparation and a dose of good luck gave us this day.”

This was ElginRacing’s second major endurance win of the year after winning the Devil in the Dark 12-hour race at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
