Every year, members of the automotive press are invited to the Specialty Equipment Market Association, better known as SEMA show. It’s an event where all of the biggest names in the industry come together to show off their latest offerings for the automotive aftermarket.

Just the other day, a press release from Dart came across our desk here at powerTV, and we felt compelled to share with you its contents. It tells the tale of legendary engine builder Ed Pink, building a 302-based Ford motor for the SEMA Scholarship Committee Fund.

The SEMA SCF distributes between $100,000-150,000 to deserving students who are pursuing careers in the automotive field. In which, these awards include additional funding for vocational school, along with 2 and 4-year and postgraduate work programs with a percentage designated for the families of employees of SEMA member companies. There is also a Loan Forgiveness Program to help repay student loans for employees of SEMA member firms.

The 302 in question utilizes a DART block, Pro 1 cylinder heads, and a Scat stroker crank to increase displacement an additional 49cui for a total of 351. It will be auctioned off on everyone’s favorite love-it-or-hate auction site; eBay. The motor is said to produce well above 400hp, and will provide its new owner with the utmost reliability and longevity of a late-model stocker. It’s adaptable to just about anything Blue Oval-related, and will easily squeeze between the fenders of any Mustang, Cobra kit car, truck, or street rod.

In announcing the promotion, SEMA Scholarship Committee member and Project Coordinator Bill Holland were quoted as saying;

“Ed Pink Racing Engines is exceptionally well qualified to perform the build, and will bring tremendous cache to the project. While ‘The Old Master’ is probably best known for his exploits with fuel-burning SOHC Ford and Chrysler HEMI engines, the company has expanded beyond its drag racing roots and has built many highly successful engines for IndyCar, Midget, Sprint Car and Endurance Road Racing applications. Ed, EPRE General Manager Frank Honsowetz and owner Tom Malloy have a cadre of highly qualified, experienced technicians who will assist in the building and testing of this engine at the Ed Pink Racing Engines facility in Van Nuys, California.”
