Erin Moore’s Single Turbo ’93 Cobra Has 9s On Its Mind

Erin Moore '93 Cobra exteriorGoals are good to have. If we didn’t have them, we would just be sitting still. We always have goals in mind with our Mustangs. Whether it’s 12s, 11s, 10s, whatever, we just want it quicker and faster than it was the week before.

For Erin Moore and his turbo ’93 Cobra, the goal for the car is to run in the 9s with a 6-speed. The transmission in question is a D&D T56 Magnum with a McLeod RST clutch, but most of the determining factor in his quest lies under the hood. MTR Performance’s Jeremy Clark and Bob Engel dropped in a Ford Racing Boss 347 short block with a custom cam, AFR 195cc heads, an Edelbrock Victor EFI intake, an Accufab throttle body, and a big piece to the puzzle, a single BorgWarner S475 turbo.

An Aeromotive A1000 fuel system feeds Injector Dynamics 850cc fuel injectors, while a BigStuff 3 engine management system makes everything work in unison. Instead of a conventional distributor, Clark and Engel used an Explorer cam sync system with LS coils that are hidden in the inner fender. Just like the coils, everything else was hidden and tucked behind the Scott Rod Fabrication engine bay aprons.

What is clearly seen, though, is the level of craftsmanship that has gone into the build. The paint work was done by Sante Fe Auto Body, and since it’s still a Fox Mustang, sound deadener was dispersed throughout the cabin to quiet everything down. What’s more, the factory suspension was replaced with Maximum Motorsports pieces, and paired with Baer brakes. No, your eyes do not deceive you; the rear wheels were widened to 9 ½-in.

After all, in order to run 9s, a substantial tire is definitely needed. The total package however, is what makes this car not only fast, but one we could look at all day long.
