I have owned a bunch of Mustangs during my life. Like most enthusiasts, I have a soft spot in my heart for the 60’s models, and I have owned a 68 in the past. The Mustangs I grew up wanting were the Fox body cars though. The Fox was the car to have back in junior high and high school and the sight of a black and white notch on the Texas highway was common when the DPS was rocking’ the 5.0 back in the day. I grew to love and fear those notch Mustangs because of the DPS.

The notch was faster often than its hatchback counterpart thanks to the lightweight of the car, which was the love part. The hate part was that seeing a notch in your rear view mirror often meant you were getting a ticket around my area. In Texas and many parts of the country right now there is a drought and that means you can’t burn trash or leaves without risking setting your city on fire. The Wilson County News reports that on June 6 someone in the Floresville, Texas area burned something anyway and ended up sparking a blaze that took fire fighters from three cities to extinguish.

Luckily, nothing but property was damaged, but part of that property that was damaged is the blue notch you see in the photo here. It appears to have been a 4-cylinder notch and no matter how you feel about those anemic four bangers, it’s sad to see one of the notches killed off in a fire. Fire has claimed more than few Mustangs this year. Back in February, a man lost his Mustang and a Ranger truck to a fire when his exhaust system caught fire.
