For decades Mustang enthusiasts have embarked upon various journeys across the nation, attending car shows and events, with the hope of obtaining the ultimate award. For many, this is in the form of a trophy or a medal. For one particular group however, the ultimate award is merely the opportunity to give something back to the community.
On May 12, 2013 the Red Mustang Registry (RMR) embarked upon a journey to raise money for charity by taking a cruise to Dover International Speedway. The group’s event entitled “Get The Red Out” allowed RMR members from across the nation to meet and enjoy a private tour of the track, including the opportunity to put their ponies to the test on the Monster Mile in order to get a feel of the full track experience.
To top it off, the registry decided to video the event from start to finish in an attempt to share the experience with members that were unable to attend. With the aide of Chris Guiton, a two time Emmy Award winner for graphic design, the final product was compiled into a DVD with the proceeds from all sales being donated to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
Steve Schatten, President and founder of RMR, and Daniel Ramey, Vice President of Vendor Relations and the event’s coordinator, had this to say about their journey: “Our goal was to have fun with family and friends and to share our experience with others in order to raise money for those who need it most. If you should meet any RMR member, you will see that we promote family and community. Our goal is to continue to do these events and increase efforts across the nation to do the same. It is more than just Mustang fun, it is Mustang family and we are here to keep that tradition alive.”
