Early last week, we saw several time slips leaked by none other than that familiar voice of drag racing, Bret Kepner. These time slips were in the mid eight-second zone, but Kepner hadn’t yet revealed who those time slips belonged to, we were only teased that history was being made.
Friday the word finally came out, the slips were those of Stock Eliminator racer Chris Holbrook. We’ve brought you stories on Holbrook before. The 1999 IHRA Pro Stock Champ, now wheels a Cobra Jet Mustang that is notorious for pulling massive wheel stands, winning events, and amazing the crowd.
This season Holbrook is running a new engine combination. The Cobra Jet is utilizing a supercharged 5.0 Coyote engine for motivation and automatic transmission to back it up. The combination was no doubt built by Holbrook utilizing his lifetime of engine building talent and experience.
While the rest of us have been in awe of the street car time slips of NMRA street car racers this weekend, including those of Coffeeman, and Reeves with their supercharged Coyote combinations, Holbrook has been busy turning out even faster slips in his Cobra Jet race car.
Running Stock Eliminator AAA/SA Holbrook wheeled the car to an incredible 8.504 at 160.68! Not only is that the fastest elapsed time ever in Stock Eliminator, the ET shatters the previous record by 0.25 seconds and over 5 mph!
Holbrook is sure to make waves in stock eliminator this season, as his competitors scramble to keep up with him. With the 2013 Drag Racing series just underway, we wouldn’t be surprised if Holbrook doesn’t surprise us all again. Kepner says the combination is 115 pounds heavy for the class, removing some more weight could make the car even faster. We’ll keep you posted.
