For all of the folks out there who don’t believe the Ford Modular engine combination is capable of getting it done on the racetrack alongside other Ford powerplants and those from the General, Californian John Mihovetz continues to prove them all wrong.

The point man at Accufab Inc. and a noted drag racer and car guy, Mihovetz has continually and tirelessly chipped away at the performance potential of the Modular engine through his exploits in the NHRA Competition Eliminator and PSCA Pro Street ranks with low six-second numbers at well in excess of 200 MPH.

At the PSCA event sponsored by his own company at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend, Mihovetz rolled to his best numbers to date with the twin-turbocharged, gasoline-burning 281 cubic inch-inch engine combination based up an actual Ford Modular production block and cylinder heads, running a 6.141 at 236.34 MPH.

Mihovetz’s Ford Mustang produces 52 pounds of boost from the pair of 80mm turbochargers at 9,600 RPM as it sails through the traps, creating in the neighborhood of 2,500 horsepower. The little 281 is backed by a 4-speed Lenco transmission and a 9-inch clutch that propels the 2,460-pound car.

The 6.14 effort qualified Mihovetz third behind Make Maggio and Dan Nickelson at 6.03 and 6.14, respectively.
