If you own a Shelby GT350 or GT350R, you might need to take it to your local dealer to have its oil cooler lines replaced.
Ford recently announced a recall of around 8,000 GT350s and GT350Rs (6,523 in the United States and 957 in Canada) for improperly crimped engine oil cooler lines that could lead to leaking and possible failure. The sudden loss of oil pressure could result in significant engine damage if not repaired. This leak could also be a potential fire hazard, not to mention covering the road, track, or all over your brand new Mustang.
The affected vehicles are 2015-2017 Ford GT350 and GT350Rs manufactured between February 24,2015 through August 30, 2016. All sales of any other Shelby GT350s and GT350Rs were halted until the issue is repaired. The parts for the recall should be hitting a dealership service department near you any day now and any local Ford dealership should be able to get you an appointment and get the needed repair parts for you. With something as serious as this, it would be best to just leave the vehicle at the dealership until it is repaired.
Ford’s official paperwork details the affected lines and shows technicians how to execute the repair.
As you can see from the picture from the actual Ford safety recall 16S40 above, the hoses that are being replaced are those in front of the engine. These hoses run from the oil filter housing to the oil cooler radiator assembly. This recall calls for replacing the entire hose assembly with updated versions to keep your engine safe from oil leaks and lost oil pressure.
